Renowned detective Hercule Poirot (Sir Peter Ustinov) finds himself entangled in a mystery that transforms from fiction to deadly reality. Invited by his close friend, the crime novelist Ariadne Oliver (Jean Stapleton), Poirot is drawn into the peculiar arrangements of a 'Murder Hunt' game for a local fair at the stately Nass House.
