Plot

In the stirring heartland of the Rocky Mountains, Beth Winter, an emotionally charged woman, stumbles upon an abandoned dog on a desolate freeway. Her back-surgeon husband, Dr. Joseph Winter, is less than thrilled about the new addition - a pup Beth lovingly names Freeway. Amidst this, their single daughter, Grace, crosses paths with a charming veterinarian Dr. Sam Boola, setting the stage for a love story. After Grace and Sam's picturesque wedding at the family's rustic cabin, Beth, Joseph, their nephew, Joseph's divorced sister Penny and her new boyfriend Russell linger, seeking a few days of respite. Russell's unfocused demeanor rubs Joseph, Beth, and Bryan, Joseph's surgeon colleague, the wrong way, adding to the brewing tension. A casual walk in the woods turns into a nightmare when the self-involved Joseph carelessly loses Freeway. Beth, refusing to leave without the beloved canine, rallies the family for a search. Assisted by their part-Romani caretaker Carmen, who possesses a spiritual gift, they embark on a desperate hunt. As Freeway becomes symbolic of the strained relationship between Beth and Joseph, the search morphs into more than just a mere rescue mission. In the sprawling wilderness, the group finds themselves coming to terms with their relationships and personal shortcomings. Through their shared ordeal, they learn to mend their bonds. As they scour the mountains for Freeway, they inadvertently embark on a journey to rediscover the essence of love, family, and companionship. Unresolved animosities and simmering tensions fade into the background, making way for a renewed understanding of each other. The search for the lost dog, thus, becomes a catalyst for familial healing and personal growth.
