Plot

In the heart of Manhattan, we meet Cate Madighan, the 35-year-old editor-in-chief of Perfect, the leading lifestyle magazine. Crafted under the guidance of her mentor and fiancé, media tycoon Stewart Wallach, Cate's life is an embodiment of the magazine's ethos - clutter-free, efficient, and seemingly perfect. Her tranquil existence, however, is jolted when she receives a package from her deceased father, Daniel Madighan, after a 26-year estrangement. Haunted by the memory of her father abandoning her following her mother's death, Cate is initially reluctant to fulfill his final wish enclosed in the package - to return his ashes to their quaint hometown of New Kerry, Massachusetts, and arrange for his erstwhile best friends and singing partners, Cavanaugh and Donahue, to perform "Danny Boy" at his memorial. Despite her resentment, she embarks on this mission, driven by the need to maintain the ideals she preaches in her magazine and to finally put her painful past behind her. As Cate, along with her efficient assistant Jeffrey Lerner, journeys back to the seaside town, she finds herself plunged into a world that stands frozen in time, much like her unresolved feelings towards her father. Her task proves more complex than anticipated, as she navigates the bitter fallout between Cavanaugh and Donahue and the layers of her father's life that she had long overlooked. The journey is further complicated when she meets Conner Bailey, a lawyer new to New Kerry who challenges her perceptions of what constitutes a fulfilling and happy life. While continuing to plan her high-profile wedding to Stewart back in Manhattan, Cate's prolonged stay in New Kerry forces her to confront her past and explore her roots. As she grapples with the revelations about her father and the burgeoning feelings for Conner, Cate finds herself at a crossroads, torn between the immaculate life she has meticulously curated, and the raw, authentic existence she discovers in New Kerry. Daniel's Daughter is a tale of self-discovery, forgiveness, and the unexpected twists and turns that life throws our way.
