Plot

In the vibrant and revolutionary year of 1969, the city of love, Paris, becomes the playground for the ambitious American, Paul Ballard. Residing in the beautiful city with his French partner Marlene, a flight attendant, Paul's primary pursuit is film editing. But his real passion lies in personal filmmaking, capturing the intimate ebbs and flows of their tumultuous relationship. Marlene, however, dismisses his cinematic efforts as self-indulgence, not worthy of public attention. Paul's professional world takes a thrilling turn when he's enlisted as the editor and second unit director on a provocative English-language sci-fi flick set in the futuristic Paris of 2001. The film's tantalizing lead, Valentine, embodies the enigmatic secret agent Dragonfly, sweeping everyone off their feet, including the film's esteemed French director Andrezej. However, with the movie lacking a conclusive ending and the director's infatuation with Valentine clouding his vision, the producer, Enzo di Martini, dismisses Andrezej. The directorial mantle, after a sequence of replacements, eventually falls onto Paul. Tasked with not just delivering an explosive finale but also wrestling with his own growing fascination for Valentine, Paul finds himself stuck in a dizzying whirlwind. As he navigates the blurred lines between his fantasy world and reality, Paul's dual film projects threaten to reshape the course of his personal and professional life. His struggle to distinguish between the allure of the cinematic world and his relationship with Marlene forms the crux of this riveting tale. Will he manage to finish the film and find his true path, or will he be lost in the intoxicating glamour of Dragonfly's world? The allure of 2001 awaits in this electrifying exploration of love, cinema, and self-discovery.
