Plot

In the riotous comedy-musical, "Cottonpickin' Chickenpickers" (1967), we find ourselves on a madcap journey with Darby Clyde Fenster and Jerry Martin, two destitute drifters whose lives are nothing short of calamitous comedy. Their story begins on a freight, where they hitch a ride to Florida with nothing but dreams and empty pockets. Their journey takes a wild turn when they stumble upon a chicken farm, their stomachs leading them to a misadventure in the hen house. Their bumbling attempts to steal chickens, driven by pure hunger, sparks a chain of hilariously absurd events that quickly escalate, leading to a series of comedic circumstances that only they could find themselves in. Their encounter with the farm's disgruntled owners is a spectacle not to be missed, filled with a delightful dose of Southern-fried humor and toe-tapping country music. Adding to the hilarity is Sonny Tufts, once a renowned star but whose Hollywood career was marred by alcoholism. He breathes life into the character of Cousin Urie, a moonshine-guzzling caricature of his own persona, in what would be his final performance. Also appearing is Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom, the boxing champion turned comic actor, who delivers a knockout performance as an ex-prizefighter turned mailman, a character as eccentric as his past suggests. "Cottonpickin' Chickenpickers" is a joyride through the eccentricities of the South, a film packed with a unique blend of humor, country music, and characters that are as colorful as they are outrageous. It's a wild ride you won't want to miss!
