Plot

In the throbbing heart of civilization, Paul Giamatti - an actor bearing his own name - is drowning in existential ennui. Engulfed by the anxieties of his craft, he's preparing for his Broadway debut in "Uncle Vanya." His performance, however, is as lackluster as his marriage, leaving him yearning for an escape. His agent presents a bizarre yet tempting solution: a mysterious office that offers soul storage, a chance to unburden oneself from the weight of one's soul. Intrigued, Paul decides to deep-freeze his soul, hoping it will alleviate his emotional turmoil. However, the soulless existence proves detrimental to both his acting and his marriage. In a desperate attempt to find balance, he rents the soul of a Russian poet for two weeks, plunging himself into the melancholic depths of borrowed emotions. His acting prowess soars, but his wife finds him unrecognizable, and glimpses of the poet's life haunt his every moment. When the sorrow becomes unbearable, Paul craves the return of his own soul. Yet, complications arise; his soul has been lost in a soul trafficking scheme and ended up in St. Petersburg. With the help of Nina, a soul courier from Russia, Paul embarks on a desperate journey to reclaim his essence. As the lines blur between his own identity and the souls he's encountered, Paul must grapple with a critical question: Who has he truly become?
