Plot

In the heart-wrenching tale of "Close to My Heart" (1951), we follow the Sheridans, embodied by the radiant Gene Tierney as Midge and the stalwart Ray Milland as Brad. United in matrimony but divided by their inability to conceive a biological offspring, they tread the path of adoption, their hopes high and hearts vulnerable. As they navigate the maze of adoption bureaucracy, they stumble upon a tale of an abandoned boy, left to the mercy of a local police station. Midge, a beacon of love and nurturing spirit, is quick to open her heart to the young child, her maternal instincts deaf to any reservations. Yet, Brad, ever the pragmatist, yearns for transparency, a clear understanding of the boy's lineage before inviting him into their home. As they explore the child's past, they are confronted with a chilling possibility - the boy's father could be a cold-blooded murderer. An adaptation of James R. Webb's novel "A Baby for Midge," the film leaves us pondering - will Midge's dream of motherhood ever be fulfilled?
