Child of Mine (2005)

In a small, tight-knit Alberta town, the chilling murder of Jane McGill, a woman of the night, leaves the local police chief without any leads. Years after the gruesome incident, Jane's two daughters find themselves adopted by an unqualified London couple, Alvin's friends. Grace, the older of the two girls, displays a savage demeanor towards Tess Palmer, a former psychotherapist who relinquished her career to become a full-time mother. Simultaneously, she exhibits an endearing warmth to her new father, Alfie Palmer, a man wrestling with his entrepreneurial dreams. Nevertheless, Grace's aggressive behavior extends to Charlie, Alfie's son from a previous marriage, and his elderly grandmother. As the tension within the family reaches breaking point, Tess embarks on a journey with Grace back to Alberta, driven by suspicions of a sinister past revealed through mysterious overseas correspondences.
