Plot

In the tumultuous year of 1987, amidst a backdrop of war, a chance encounter intertwines the lives of George Lennox, a humble bus driver from Glasgow, and Carla, a melancholic exile from Nicaragua. Carla's life is a delicate tapestry of sorrow, her body marred by scars, her family scattered to the winds and her boyfriend swallowed by the unknown, pushing her to the brink of despair. Propelled by an urge to heal her wounds, George navigates them through the war-torn landscapes of her homeland Nicaragua, hoping to uncover the fate of her lost loved ones and confront her tormenting past. Once on home soil, Carla's suppressed nightmares resurface, thrusting both her and George into the heart of the US's relentless war against the Sandinistas. A shroud of enigma surrounds the disappearance of Carla's boyfriend, with the only potential lead being Bradley, an embittered American aid worker and a close acquaintance of Carla. As she reunites with her scattered family, they are caught in the crossfire of a merciless attack by the Contras. Amidst the chaos, Carla and the Scottish George are faced with choices that could change their lives forever. This narrative explores love, war, and survival, a testament to the human spirit's resilience.
