Plot

Haunted by his past as a failed tennis player, Peter grapples with the bitter aftermath of a career-ending car accident. His life is steeped in frustration, directed at the superficial materialism of society and his emotionally distant father, Arnie, whom Peter blames for neglecting him during his mother's dying days. Amidst his tumultuous inner turmoil, he seeks an escape into what remains of his normal life. One night, in the dimly-lit ambience of a local bar, he stumbles upon Tess, a woman grappling with her own demons following a painful divorce. They find a mutual comfort in their shared despair, kindling a passionate love affair that brings a fleeting sense of bliss. However, their happiness is threatened when Tess attempts to face the remnants of her shattered marriage. Peter, desperate to preserve their bubble of happiness, suggests an audacious plan: they should retreat from the world and reside solely within the confines of his apartment, a utopia they dub CANDiLAND. Now severed from the outside world, they embark on a zealous quest for a higher state of existence, their love becoming as intoxicating as it is possessive. But as they spiral deeper into their self-made paradise, their love story begins to resemble a surreal nightmare. Their pursuit of oneness descends into a savage madness that alarms Peter's estranged father. As the walls of CANDiLAND close in, Arnie must wage a desperate battle to reach his son and Tess before they lose themselves completely to the madness they've created. CANDiLAND portrays a haunting exploration of love, isolation, and the dangerous extremes to which we can be driven in our desperate search for connection and identity.
