Calvaire (2005)

Just shy of Christmas, Marc Stevens, a roving entertainer, finds himself marooned at dusk within the secluded forest of the swampy Hautes Fagnes region in Liège, his trusty van rendered lifeless. A peculiar fellow on a quest to locate his lost canine companion guides Marc to a desolate inn. The proprietor, a man named Bartel, offers Marc refuge for the night. As dawn breaks, Bartel pledges to repair the stalled van, but curiously insists that Marc steer clear of the nearby village. He rummages through Marc's belongings when the entertainer ventures for a stroll. During supper, Bartel mourns the departure of his wife, setting an unsettling tone. By the following day, Marc finds himself ensnared in a waking nightmare, a harrowing ordeal that threatens to be unending. With each passing moment, the inn and its mysterious keeper draw Marc deeper into a world where the line between reality and terror becomes increasingly blurred.
