Plot

Born under the same star as Jesus Christ on Christmas Day, 1960, Zac Beaulieu embarks on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance, a journey as magical and tumultuous as life itself. As the fourth of five sons in the Beaulieu family, Zac finds himself struggling to connect with his diverse siblings, from Christian, the bookworm, Antoine, the athletic simpleton, to the aimless drug-addict, Raymond. His youngest sibling, Yvan, remains an enigma. Yet, Zac's greatest struggle is not with his brothers, but with his own identity and the expectations of his parents. To his devoutly Catholic mother, Laurianne, Zac is a miracle son. His birth on Christmas and a prophecy by a mystic Tupperware seller bestowed upon him the power to heal, tying him and his mother in a special, unspoken bond. Yet, Zac yearns to win over his father, Gervais, a man who dreams of raising his sons as embodiments of traditional masculinity, devoid of any traces of weakness. As Zac navigates the maze of adolescence and early adulthood, he battles the pressure of living up to his mother's spiritual expectations and his father's stringent ideals of manhood. His stress-induced asthma seems a minor inconvenience compared to the internal turmoil he faces. The turmoil of suppressing his emerging thoughts, thoughts common to every adolescent, but growing more persistent as he ages. "C.R.A.Z.Y." is a vibrant tapestry of two intertwined love affairs. The profound love of a father for his sons and the desperate love of a son, Zac, for his father. A love that forces him to live a lie, a facade to fit in with his father's vision of normality. Yet, the next two decades bring unexpected twists and turns, unraveling Zac's true nature and compelling his father to love him for who he truly is. This film is a mystical fable about a modern-day Christ-like figure, celebrating the poetry, beauty, and madness of the human spirit, with all its inherent contradictions.
