Plot

In the midst of the pulsating rock and roll era of the 60s, Conrad Birdie, a magnetic superstar with a hypnotic sway over his teen-aged female fans, is unexpectedly drafted. This seismic shift in the rock world ignites waves of protest, followed by a ripple of despair in the heart of Albert F. Peterson, an ambitious but struggling songwriter teetering on the brink of success. Albert, a devoted mama's boy, envisioned Birdie's fame as a golden ticket to catapult his own song into the limelight in a forthcoming Birdie movie. Rosie DeLeon, Albert's resilient secretary and secret fiancée of six long years, concocts an ingenious scheme. She suggests to iconic Ed Sullivan that Birdie bids a symbolic farewell to his adoring fans on his television show, Toast of the Town, with a heartfelt song, yet to be written by Albert, and a farewell kiss to a selected fan. Rosie's endgame is a potential financial windfall for Albert, enabling him to support his ex-vaudevillian mother Mae, who dreams of her son's stardom, and finally marry Rosie; assuming Mama permits the union she is blissfully unaware of. The fortunate fan selected for Birdie's farewell kiss is none other than Kim McAfee from the quaint town of Sweet Apple, Ohio. Until this twist of fate, Kim's world revolved around Hugo Peabody, her devoted boyfriend and high school sweetheart. Birdie's arrival in Sweet Apple, however, stirs a whirlwind of complications. A jealous Hugo, a flustered Harry McAfee, Kim's father, and a spiraling line-up for the show all threaten to derail Rosie and Albert's meticulously laid plans. With problems mounting, Albert and Rosie must navigate this tumultuous tide, hoping that a touch of Albert's bio-chemistry could offer a solution. Yet, with Albert's unwavering loyalty to his mother, Rosie might reach her breaking point, leaving the future of their relationship hanging in the balance.
