Plot

Renowned amateur sleuth, Lord Peter Wimsey, is about to wed the esteemed crime novelist, Harriet Vane, in an opulent societal ceremony. Amidst the wedding fanfare, the couple makes a pact, sealed with bespoke charms, to relinquish their affinity for crime-solving in favor of a serene married life. As a nuptial offering, Peter procures Tall-boys, Harriet's cherished childhood Jacobean abode. The newlyweds plan to collect the keys from the crafty, debt-ridden ex-owner Noakes, only to find the house deserted on their arrival. Undeterred, they manage to secure a key, enjoy a quiet supper, and retreat into their honeymoon. On the following day, an army of cleaners swarm the house, only to unearth a chilling discovery — the lifeless body of Noakes in the chilling cellar. As the Wimseys grapple with their promise to shun crime-solving, this sinister murder in their newfound haven makes it a promise that's increasingly difficult to keep. The allure of the unsolved mystery threatens to ensnare them, jeopardizing their freshly vowed retirement from the world of crime.
