Bush Christmas (1947)

In an idyllic Australian outback town, five adventurous children, bonded by their shared journey home from school on horseback, impulsively veer off onto a forbidden trail. Their path crosses with two mysterious strangers, who intrigue them with shiny coins and extract a promise of silence. The strangers learn of Lucy, a cherished mare belonging to Mr. Thompson, a steadfast sheep farmer and the father to three of the children - the responsible elder sister, Helen, her brother John, and their cherubic six-year-old sibling, Snow, named for his striking white hair. Joining the Thompson children are Michael, a British boy seeking adventure while staying with the Thompsons, and Neza, a native Australian boy, the son of one of Mr. Thompson's hardworking stockmen. These two strangers, later joined by a third accomplice, reveal their true colors as horse thieves. When Lucy and her newborn foal are discovered missing the next day, the children are gripped with the conviction that the strangers are behind this theft. Under the guise of a camping trip, the children set off on a daring mission to the adults. Their real intent, however, is a courageous pursuit of justice - to track down the thieves and reclaim Lucy and her foal, setting right the injustice that has disrupted their peaceful hamlet.
