Plot

In the heart of Mud Creek, Texas, within the maze-like halls of the Shady Rest Convalescence Center, a peculiar tale unfurls in Bubba Ho-tep. Based on the Bram Stoker Award-nominated short story by Joe R. Lansdale, the film unveils the clandestine life of the "true" Elvis Presley, played by Bruce Campbell. Sebastian Haff, a former Elvis impersonator turned long-term resident of the nursing home, insists he is the real Elvis. Twenty years ago, overwhelmed by fame, he swapped lives with an impersonator, only to have their proof of identity go up in smoke during an ill-fated barbecue. Consequently, he has spent two decades in obscurity, his royal claim dismissed as dementia. Sebastian's life takes an unusual turn when he befriends Jack, a fellow resident portrayed by Ossie Davis. Jack, a black man, staunchly believes he is the reincarnation of President John F. Kennedy. An unlikely pairing, they form a formidable alliance when Jack uncovers a sinister threat lurking within their retirement home. An ancient Egyptian mummy, the soul-sucking Bubba Ho-tep, has chosen their humble abode as his personal hunting ground. Initially skeptical, Sebastian finds himself tumbling down a rabbit hole of evidence affirming Jack's wild theories. Together, these two seemingly delusional old men endeavor to thwart the malevolent entity. A daring blend of comedy and horror, Bubba Ho-tep is a riveting tale of courage, identity, and the power of belief, set against the backdrop of a nursing home under siege by supernatural forces.
