In the vast expanse of Outback Australia, on the rustic terrain of his father's sheep farm, teenage prodigy Tommy McAlpine harbors a dream. His heart yearns for the hallowed halls of the esteemed Sydney Conservatorium of Music, a world far removed from his own where his musical prowess is often met with scorn rather than applause. However, finding a band worth his compositions proves a herculean task amidst the dust-ridden outback. When a whimsical prank involving airborne watermelons lands Tommy and his affluent, pampered schoolmate Kat into the throes of community service, Tommy seizes an unusual opportunity. He opts to serve his sentence as a prison training volunteer, transforming his punishment into an audacious plan. He seeks to orchestrate a band of incarcerated misfits, covertly using them to breathe life into his audition composition for the conservatory. As the prison gates close behind him, Tommy finds unexpected allies in his daring venture. Kalai Takalua, an inmate known more for his escape attempts than his musical talent, and the stern prison warden, surprisingly, lend their support.
