Plot
In the whirlwind of life, we meet Bong-gu, a man considered a failure amongst his high school peers. His life is a cascade of disappointments and ridicule, a theme that persists during a reunion and later, at his army reserve training in the countryside. Left with scant won in his pocket, Bong-gu purchases a humble cigarette lighter - a symbol of his remaining dignity.
His journey back home begins with an unexpected camaraderie; a shared taxi ride with Bum-soo, a fellow reservist and discontent. At Seoul's bustling train station, Bong-gu inadvertently leaves his lighter in a bathroom stall, where it's seized by a ruthless gangster, Yang Chul-gon. Bong-gu's demand for the return of his lighter ignites a brutal confrontation with Chul-gon's henchmen, but the resilient Bong-gu remains unyielding, tailing the gangster onto a train.
On the train, Chul-gon's focus shifts to a more pressing matter - a senator he once aided into office who now refuses to return the favor. As the senator resists, Chul-gon's frustration escalates into a full-blown train hostage crisis. Amidst the chaos, one thing remains undeterred - Bong-gu's relentless pursuit to reclaim his lighter, weaving an unexpected hero's journey in the gripping tale of "Break Out" (2002).
