Plot

Fresh off the grueling circuit of a successful book tour, renowned mystery author Grace McCabe (Alyssa Milano) decides to take a detour to the heart of D.C., drawn by the distressing call of her sister, Kathleen. Embattled in the aftermath of an acrimonious divorce and struggling to win a custody war, Kathleen's world is far from the comfortable life Grace has grown accustomed to. In a dilapidated neighborhood that reeks of despair, Grace discovers Kathleen's desperate attempt to balance her paltry teacher's salary by moonlighting as an operator for Fantasy, Inc., a phone sex company. Fantasy, Inc., promises its employees an unbreakable veil of anonymity, a claim Kathleen clings to. Yet, Grace, with her writer's intuition, senses an undercurrent of danger. Her worst fears come to life on a chilling night perfumed with cherry blossoms when a fellow operator at Fantasy, Inc. becomes a gruesome headline. Sucked into the vortex of this real-life thriller, Grace finds herself playing a lead role far too similar to those in her novels. But as Ed Jackson, one of her ardent fans and a savvy investigator, warns her, reality is far more brutal than fiction. In this world, death isn't a plot twist, it's a tragic end. Undeterred, Grace sets a trap for a killer, whose deranged psyche is more twisted than any antagonist from her books. Yet, even with Ed's warning echoing in her mind, she may be stepping into a deadly game, a game that blurs the lines between lust and death. With every move, she risks not only her anonymity but her life itself, as she dances on the precipice of a terrifying reality she could never have imagined.
