Plot

In the heart of the city that never sleeps, brash New Yorker and nouveau riche junk dealer Harry Brock, sees his next big venture in the political playground of Washington D.C. His pockets bulging with ill-gotten gains, Harry is a man who believes money can fetch him everything - power, prestige, and even people. His entourage includes his long-time fiancée, Billie Dawn, an ex-showgirl with a heart as golden as her hair. She's a classic beauty with a mind untouched by the world's complexities, a pawn in Harry's grand game. Billie, who has spent seven years under Harry's dismissive attention, is used to being adorned with money, not affection. She finds solace in games of gin rummy, while Harry is blissfully unaware of his own crude manners and is more concerned about molding Billie into a sophisticated figurehead for his political ambitions. To polish her rough edges, he hires the sharp-witted Paul Verrall, a local freelance reporter currently penning a tell-all on Harry's empire. Paul, though hardly fond of Harry, relishes the opportunity to introduce Billie to the historical and political intricacies of Washington D.C. An unlikely student, Billie surprises him with her eagerness and capacity to learn. As she starts seeing the world through the lens of knowledge, her relationship with Harry comes under scrutiny. She begins to question the mysterious legal documents she's been signing for Harry's lawyer and her own role in Harry's dubious dealings. As she blossoms under Paul's tutelage, Billie not only realizes Harry's corrupt practices but also discovers a stirring affection for her tutor. This newfound understanding throws her into a whirlwind of emotions and revelations, igniting a chain of events that neither she, Harry, nor Paul could have predicted. 'Born Yesterday' is a tale of awakening, love, and the power dynamics that play out in the shadows of power and money.
