Plot

In the heart of the blues, 'Jigger' Lane assembles an unlikely crew of musicians: Ginger 'Character' Powell, the songbird married to trumpeter Leo Powell, and the distinctive duo, Nickie Haroyen and Peppi. Together, they pledge allegiance to the soulful rhythm of blues music, but their dedication seems to echo only in their hearts, not their pockets. During a serendipitous encounter in a boxcar, they cross paths with the charismatic yet dangerous gangster, Del Davis. Davis lures them with an offer they can't refuse: a gig at a buzzing New Jersey roadhouse. Here, Powell succumbs to the allure of the sultry Kay Grant, Davis's former flame. But a twist of fate — the imminent arrival of 'Character’s' baby — yanks him back to reality. Meanwhile, 'Jigger', attempting to replace 'Character' with Kay as the band's vocalist, spirals down a destructive path that leaves him emotionally shattered. In the wake of his downfall, Kay reappears at the roadhouse, igniting a fatal confrontation with Davis. Despite the blood on her hands, she plots to ensnare 'Jigger' once more. Yet fate intervenes when Brad Ames, a man she had previously wronged, reenters the scene. A chilling encounter results in a car plunging off a cliff, extinguishing their lives in a fiery crash. In the aftermath of the chaos, the band finds solace in their roots — back to the boxcars and the blues. Despite their tumultuous journey, they remain a unit, their joy found not in fortune but in the soul-stirring strains of their music.
