The plan is simple yet ruthless: blackmail the Reverend and threaten to shatter his reputation by exposing his salacious secret. Despite his typical prudence, Charlie dives headlong into the scam, buoyed by the promise of financial redemption for his family. They engage the assistance of Josie McBroom, Gus's ex and a former beauty pageant queen, to execute their plan.
However, their plot spirals into chaos when Reverend Smalls unexpectedly dies, plunging them into a whirlpool of troubles that they never anticipated.
