Bhoot (2003)

In the heart of Mumbai's high-rises, Vishal, a stock analyst, and his wife Swati, a homemaker, find what they believe to be their dream apartment on the 12th floor of a towering building. Unbeknownst to them, this seemingly perfect abode conceals a nightmarish past, haunted by the ghost of a young woman, Manjeet, who took her life and that of her child in a tragic event that still echoes through the empty halls. Swati stumbles upon this ghastly history and becomes disturbingly captivated, her fascination soon spiraling into a terrifying obsession. A series of inexplicable incidents pushes her to the brink of sanity, her mind seemingly ensnared by a force beyond comprehension. Vishal, watching his wife's descent into madness, is driven to desperation. In his helplessness, he turns to Dr. Rajan, a psychiatrist, hoping to find an answer in the realm of the psychological. Simultaneously, the building becomes a stage for a series of eerie happenings. From a terrorized watchman to a resident named Sanjay who exhibits bizarre behavior, the apartment complex quivers under an unseen dread. A chilling murder sets the building further on edge, drawing the attention of the astute Inspector Liaqat Quereshi. As Swati's condition worsens and the psychiatrist's efforts prove futile, the couple's maid brings a new perspective to the situation. She suggests that Swati is not suffering from a psychological disorder, but is instead possessed by an unquiet spirit. An exorcist is called in, adding another layer to the unfolding mystery. "Bhoot" weaves a terrifying tapestry of horror and suspense, where the lines between reality and the supernatural blur. As the residents of the high-rise grapple with the unknown, they must confront the chilling truth that their building is not just a home, but a battleground between the living and the dead.
