Beyond the Door (1982)

Nina, an Italian émigré residing in Morocco, is a young woman shrouded in a cloud of chilling secrecy. She's entangled in a disturbing web spun by her stepfather, Enrico, a man wrongfully imprisoned for the death of her mother. In truth, the woman took her own life, driven to despair upon discovering the illicit relationship between Nina and Enrico. However, Nina's lips remain sealed, choosing instead to drape her stepfather's prison cell in decadence, turning it into a veritable palace with her substantial bribes. The source of her wealth lies within the underbelly of Morocco's tourist industry, as she profits from their fascination with drugs and the darker side of desire. Amidst this chaos, a young American named Matthew stumbles into her life, falling hopelessly in love with the enigmatic Nina. He finds a way to connect with Nina's grandmother, instigating a meeting that leads to Enrico's pardon and subsequent release. Together, Matthew and Nina journey to Italy, only to be pursued by the shadow of Enrico. Drawn to him in a perverse and unshakable way, Nina leaves Matthew, choosing to share her life with her aging and melancholy stepfather. Enrico, once a prisoner, now finds himself wholly owned by Nina - his freedom a mere illusion.
