In the shadowy underbelly of the open road, we meet Joe (Cage), a truck driver grappling not only with life's merciless hardships but also the haunting specter of his late wife and child. His world interweaves with that of Julie (Potente), a woman imbued with a unique spiritual ability, the power to reach out to spirits in their ethereal realms. Their paths cross in a whirlwind of desperation and hope when Julie's daughter, Billie (Mitchell), finds herself teetering on the brink of life and death, her soul lost in a comatose haze. In a bid to find and retrieve Billie's wandering spirit, Julie implores Joe to aid in her spiritual endeavor. However, the realm of spirits is a tumultuous one, and the spectral echo of Joe's deceased wife, Mary, proves to be an overpowering force. Instead of guiding Billie's lost soul back, they inadvertently awaken Mary's restless spirit, who seizes the opportunity to settle some unfinished earthly business, taking possession of Billie's fragile form.
