Best Laid Plans (1999)

Bryce (Josh Brolin), a man of fortune and success, finds himself back in the humdrum of his small hometown. Here, he crosses paths with his old compatriot, Nick (Alessandro Nivola), and the two decide to rekindle their camaraderie with a night out on the town. As fate would have it, Bryce's eye is caught by the beguiling blonde, Kathy (Reese Witherspoon), at a local bar. Succumbing to her siren's charm, he brings her home for the night. Morning light, however, reveals a terrifying twist. Kathy, now claiming to be underage, threatens to report Bryce for statutory rape. In a flurry of fear, he makes the drastic decision to confine her to his basement, turning to his trusted friend Nick for guidance. But, as the plot thickens, it becomes clear that Kathy is not just a random girl. She is, in fact, Lissa, Nick's lover. Together, they have manipulated Bryce into their intricate scheme to pay a $15,000 debt to Jimmy (Terrence Howard), a local small-time crook. Unknown to Bryce, he has become a pawn in their dangerous game of deceit and desperation.
