Plot

Bangistan unspools a brilliantly sharp and uproarious satire on the hard edges of religious fundamentalism, weaving the tale of two diametrically opposite individuals, unwittingly united by a shared catastrophic mission. Stirred by the chaotic discord in the name of faith, the Subcontinental Muslim and Hindu leaders, the Imam and the Shankaracharya, decide to grace the International Peace Conference in Krakow with their presence. Their aim? A united front to foster everlasting peace between their religions. However, their noble intentions are challenged by two anarchic factions, the Islamist Al-Kaam Tamam and the right-wing Maa Ka Dal. Each group manipulatively handpicks and indoctrinates their respective pawns: Hafeez and Praveen. The objective? To suicide bomb the peace conference, ensuring the local sway of these factions remains unchallenged. Following a humorously intense 'training' phase, Hafeez and Praveen, in an attempt to remain inconspicuous, swap their religious personas. Hafeez, the jihadi, transforms into a devout Hindu, Ishwarchand; while Praveen, the Hindu zealot, becomes a practicing Muslim, Allahrakha. Intent on their mission, the duo ends up sharing a roof in Krakow, constantly juggling their true identities and mission objectives, standing precariously close to discovery at crucial junctures. Their journey in Krakow is a rollercoaster of antics involving a local cop yearning for recognition, a cunning pub owner who takes them under her wing, a quick-buck chasing Bangladeshi intermediary, and an array of local inhabitants. As the plot thickens, the cultural shock of their foreign escapades adds an extra layer of complexity. The climax builds up to a dramatic, heart-stopping finale in Krakow, bringing the world's attention to the city. Amidst the breathless suspense and laughter, a universal truth emerges: all religions are simply different paths leading to the same destination.
