Plot

In the heart of picturesque Burgundy, the delicate tendrils of an intimate family drama unfurl. In "Back to Burgundy," acclaimed director Cédric Klapisch weaves a tender tale of three siblings, bound by blood and vine, who are drawn back to their familial roots. Jean, the prodigal son, played by Pio Marmai, returns to the family vineyard after a decade of self-imposed exile. His return is prompted by the declining health of their father, a specter from a past Jean had long since left behind. Meanwhile, his sister Juliette, portrayed by Ana Girardot, has taken command of the vineyard, her strong will guiding her through the complexities of modern wine making. The youngest, Jeremie, played by Francois Civil, struggles to find his own voice, suffocated by the pressures of his prestigious in-laws and the shadows of his siblings. When their father breathes his last, the trio is left grappling with a sprawling vineyard and a crushing inheritance tax. The estate, teetering on the brink of financial ruin, becomes a crucible for the siblings as they navigate the changing seasons and two harrowing harvests. As time progresses, Jean is torn between the call of his Australian life and the undeniable pull of his birthplace. The arrival of his Brazilian wife and their son only adds to the emotional tumult. Simultaneously, Juliette's determination to modernize clashes with tradition, symbolized by the unwavering cellar master Marcel, while Jeremie finds himself caught in the crossfire, yearning for acceptance. "Back to Burgundy" is not just a story of a vineyard at the edge of ruin, but a tale of rediscovery - of relationships, of forgotten pasts, and of a land that refuses to let go. Through trials and triumphs, Jean, Juliette, and Jeremie must learn to trust in each other and in the soil that nurtured them, to preserve not just their inheritance but the bond that ties them together.
