In the heart-wrenching tale of Aurora (2014), we follow the journey of Sofía Olivari, a compassionate elementary school teacher nestled in a quaint small-town setting. Her heart holds an unquenchable desire for motherhood, a dream that has been twice thwarted by the harsh realities of adoption agencies. Yet, Sofía and her husband remain undeterred, applying for the third time in the hopes of welcoming a child into their loving home.
The course of Sofía's life takes an unexpected turn when she stumbles upon a newspaper article that tells a chilling story; a newborn baby, abandoned and left to the cruel whims of fate in a dumpster. A surge of maternal instinct and raw empathy propels Sofía into action. She believes this innocent soul, now lost to the world, should be granted the dignity of a proper burial.
However, the labyrinth of legalities presents a daunting obstacle. The child, unnamed and unrecognized by the world, has no legal identity. Unfazed, Sofía approaches a judge, her resolve unwavering. His insistence that nothing can be done only fuels her determination. Sofía finds herself in a battle for a child she never knew, a child who deserves not just a name, but recognition of her brief existence. Sofía fights not just for the baby Aurora, but for every child who, like her, deserved a name too.
