Plot

"As One" paints a cinematic tableau of a pivotal moment in Korean history, when the aftermath of war gave birth to the first Unified Korea sports team. Set against the tense backdrop of the Korean peninsula, post the horrifying North Korean mid-air bombing of Korean Air Flight 858 in 1987, the plot traces the journey towards a remarkable truce. The two Koreas, locked in an icy standoff, broke the deadlock at a Summit, agreeing to form a unified sports team - an emblem of unity amidst division. The sport chosen to symbolize this unification was table tennis, a game that held the world's gaze and was a matter of national pride for both North and South Korea. Thus, "KOREA" - the first-ever unified sports team - was born, ready to make their mark at the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships in Chiba, Japan. The heartbeat of "As One" lies in the stirring narrative of two world-class table tennis players. Formerly rivals who faced off across the net, they now found themselves on the same side of the table, bound by a shared purpose. The plot follows their journey from being fierce opponents to becoming unlikely allies, as they strive to overcome their personal ambitions for the collective goal. With the formidable Chinese team, hunting for their 9th consecutive World Championship title, standing in their path, they must harness every shred of courage and elegance to emerge victorious.
