Plot

Caught in the whirlwind of familial expectations and personal desires, Shirin wrestles with the complexities of her identities: a dutiful Persian daughter, a politically-correct bisexual, and a trendsetting Brooklynite. As she grapples with her layered persona, Shirin finds herself adrift in a sea of confusion, unanchored by the clichés that usually define individuals. Her family, draped in traditional Persian etiquettes, remains blissfully ignorant of her bisexuality, while her ex-girlfriend, Maxine, ponders over Shirin's reluctance to come out. Amidst this, Shirin struggles to hold the attention of the restless six-year-old boys in her filmmaking class, symbolizing her quest for acceptance and understanding in a world that seldom pays heed. When her family announces her brother's engagement to a quintessential Iranian beauty, Shirin plunges into a quiet rebellion. She embarks on a kaleidoscope of pansexual adventures, a desperate attempt to navigate the labyrinth of her life, while also seeking answers about her failed relationship with Maxine. Appropriate Behavior is a riveting exploration of a young woman's struggle to reconcile her multifaceted identity. It delves into the lonely ordeal of living without a cliché while trying to fit into the puzzle of societal norms. The film is a poignant journey of self-discovery, love, and the relentless pursuit of acceptance in an often indifferent world.
