Plot

In the soul-stirring Malayalam venture Anwar, acclaimed cinematographer-turned-director, Amal Neerad, paints a vivid tableau of youthful innocence swept up in a storm of political fervor and terror. The film stars the enigmatic Prithviraj as Anwar, an orphan incarcerated for money laundering, embarking on a journey that delves deep into the heart of God's own country's underbelly, where young souls are lured into the sinister labyrinth of terror modules. While serving his term, Anwar's path intertwines with Babu Sait, a charismatic religious leader and businessman, played by Lal, who is accused of orchestrating a devastating bomb blast in Coimbatore. Sait, recognizing a potential ally in Anwar, brings him under his wing, securing his release from prison. As Anwar's life becomes intertwined with Sait's illicit endeavors, he evolves into Sait's right-hand man, participating in explosive plots and shady business transactions. The narrative also introduces Ayesha, a young woman played with riveting intensity by Mamta Mohandas. Initially, Ayesha's character flutters in and out of the story, a suspected accomplice providing the explosives for the Coimbatore blast. However, as the plot unfolds, her character's pivotal significance is revealed, adding an intriguing layer to the story. On the hunt for Sait and his gang is the unyielding anti-terrorist squad chief of Tamil Nadu police, Stalin Manimaran, portrayed with effortless skill by Prakash Raj. His relentless pursuit of justice forms the backbone of the plot, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. Anwar's quest for revenge against the terror factions that obliterated his family in a bomb blast adds a poignant undertone to the film. This clandestine mission to unveil the masked culprits behind the blast propels the narrative forward, building suspense with each turn. Neerad's masterful storytelling weaves these complex threads together, leading to a climactic ending that, while slightly subdued, resonates deeply, leaving an indelible impact on the viewer. Despite minor glitches, Anwar stands as a testament to Neerad's directorial prowess, proving that his previous ventures were anything but happenstance.
