Animal (1977)

In the madcap world of cinema stunts, the hapless Mike Gaucher (Jean-Paul Belmondo) is a notorious figure. This luckless stuntman's reputation for calamity precedes him, with every single job unfailingly spiraling into disaster and chaos. His exasperated fiancée contemplates his demise, while the film studios have all but washed their hands off him. His latest misadventure as King Kong in a supermarket promotion sees him toppling display shelves, adding yet another disaster to his already tarnished resume. The one role he masters with aplomb is playing the victim - feigning deafness, muteness, and lameness to swindle money from the unsuspecting government. Just when it seems like Mike's fortunes can't get any worse, destiny throws him an unexpected lifeline in the form of the "ravishing" actor Bruno Ferrari (also Jean-Paul Belmondo). Touted as an audacious stuntman, Ferrari's bravado crumbles when his feet leave terra firma, revealing a crippling fear of heights. To avert a scandalous revelation, a stunt double is urgently required. And who else to fill that role but our good-for-nothing hero, Mike Gaucher? Thus begins a riotous tale of misadventures and mistaken identities, where the man who's always the wrong man for the job might just become the hero of the day.
