Plot

In the heart of rural India, the birth of a girl named Raja Nandini stirs joy within a family of feudal lords, the Zamindars, whose authority reigns supreme among the villagers tilling their lands. Raised by her three brothers after their parents' demise, Nandini's existence becomes a curious blend of adoration and control, especially after an astrologer predicts her future to be one of happiness but also of a self-chosen marriage, a notion her brothers vehemently reject. Living under the brothers' watchful eyes, Nandini's world is bound by the walls of her house. The few men allowed in her vicinity are the servants and bodyguards, with one exception — Rama, the village entertainer, whose innocent charm and impressive combat skills earn him a place as Nandini's personal guard. Nandini, craving freedom, persuades Rama to introduce her to the village life, a decision that leads to her falling ill and Rama bearing the brunt of her brothers' wrath. This ordeal, however, ignites a spark between Nandini and Rama, and she finds herself falling in love. As Nandini navigates through her newfound feelings, a vengeful plot unfolds against her by a disgraced factory worker. Rama unwittingly exposes himself to her brothers' fury in a desperate attempt to save her, leading him to quit his job, despite Nandini's silent pleas for forgiveness. In a twist of fate, Nandini persuades Rama to tie a wedding chain around her neck to protect him from her brothers, a ritual Rama innocently performs without realizing its significance. As Nandini starts embracing her role as Rama's wife, the brothers grow increasingly alarmed and plan to marry her off, forcing Nandini to reveal their secret marriage. Rama, unable to comprehend their marital bond, seeks refuge with his mother, who finally makes him realize the gravity of his actions. When the brothers' rage threatens his mother's life, Rama returns, standing his ground against them. As emotions reach a fever pitch, the wives of the brothers intervene, bringing the story to a dramatic conclusion. The film, Anari, is a riveting tale of love, tradition, and the enduring power of innocence.
