Plot

Eclipsed by worry, Kendra Ellis-Connor (Kerry Washington), finds herself trapped in the sterile confines of a Miami police station, her mind racing with the whereabouts of her 18-year-old son, Jamal. A prodigious student on the cusp of entering West Point, Jamal's silence following an evening out with friends is far from his norm, sending ripples of anxiety through Kendra's heart. She anxiously anticipates the arrival of her detached husband, Scott (Steven Pasquale), while Officer Paul Larkin (Jeremy Jordan) navigates through a routine inquiry, his questions about Jamal's possible street alias, criminal history, or gold teeth inadvertently stoking the fires of racial bias. Unforeseen revelations about Jamal's location emerge as Scott, a white FBI agent and Jamal's father, steps into the scene. Officer Larkin, initially oblivious to the family connection, finds himself in the eye of a storm as the trio dissect their predicament in the deserted waiting area. As the tension escalates, the narrative wrestles with burning issues of race, gender, and class, raising provocative questions about their influence on police protocol.
