Plot

Struggling with the echoes of her mother's passing, young Alice McKinley finds her world upended once again as her father Ben, in an attempt to start anew, purchases a music store and relocates the family to an unfamiliar town. Along with her older brother Lester, Alice is plunged into the turbulent waters of adolescence in a strange new school. Her adjustment period is anything but smooth, with the stern Mrs. Plotkin as her core teacher adding to the challenges. Alice, shy and feeling increasingly isolated, frequently retreats into a vibrant, imaginative world of her own - a sanctuary that sometimes lands her in a whirl of trouble. In a bid to find belonging, Alice joins the theater club, dreaming of becoming the princess in the school musical. She battles her insecurities, imagining a version of herself that is cool, cute, and confident. Meanwhile, a complex conflict brews between Alice and her father. Ben, who seems unable to confront their shared loss, is stuck in the past while Alice yearns to embrace the future. But life has a way of surprising you. Mrs. Plotkin, who Alice initially perceives as stern, becomes an unexpected ally, teaching her valuable lessons about not rushing to judgement based on appearances. Alice Upside Down is a heartwarming tale of a young girl navigating the complexities of growing up, learning the importance of acceptance, and discovering that even in the most upside-down moments, life can right itself in the most unexpected ways.
