In the enchanting Cotswolds village of Carsely, dynamic P.R. maven Agatha Raisin retreats, leaving behind the relentless pace of London. Encouraged by the affable local constable, Bill Wong, she plunges into the village's social buzz, beginning with a quaint quiche-baking competition at the local fete. However, Agatha's city slicker instincts prevail, and she deceives the community by purchasing her entry from a London bakery, a secret only known by Gemma, her spirited cleaning lady poached from the haughty Sheila next door.
Despite Agatha's short-cut, the roguish judge Andy Cummings-Browne, notorious for his affairs with several married women, awards the prize to the demure Ella Cartwright. The following day, Andy is found dead, the lethal blow delivered by a slice of Agatha's quiche. Agatha's charismatic confidant, Roy, persuades her to use her P.R. savvy to hunt down the real killer and clear her name, an endeavour that would certainly endear her to the village folk.
Agatha sets off on a thrilling investigation, where any of Andy's scorned lovers, including his jilted wife Jo and the eccentric Maria Borrow, who insists on an impending wedding, could be the culprit. As Agatha uncovers the truth, she vindicates herself and Roy's faith in her, leading to a sudden surge in popularity as the village welcomes her with newfound warmth.
