In the sun-scorched heart of the California Mojave Desert, two young women from Los Angeles, Kathy and Carmen, find themselves sharing a ramshackle trailer, their lives intertwined by the harsh chains of circumstance. Their boyfriends, now serving lengthy sentences in a nearby state prison, leave them stranded in this desolate landscape with nothing but a shared trailer, a legacy from their sleazy lawyer who once defended their lovers. With empty pockets and prospects as barren as their surroundings, the women grapple with the stark reality of their survival. The specter of prostitution looms over them as a desperate option, until providence introduces a benevolent stranger who helps them secure jobs - one finding solace behind a bar, the other amidst the aisles of a grocery store. Yet, the tranquility of their newfound stability shatters when drug agents seize their trailer, the only semblance of home they have. Amidst the turmoil, Carmen's young son Paco finds companionship in the arid wilderness with an elderly prospector and a man whose eccentric company includes a trained lion and tiger.
