Absolution (1978)

In the hallowed halls of a Catholic public school, a game of deceit begins to unfurl. Benjamin 'Benjie' Stanfield (Dominic Guard), a once favored pupil, grows weary of his teacher's pet status and decides to stir the pot. He constructs an elaborate ruse, confessing to his form master, Father Goddard (Richard Burton), that he's killed his comrade, Blakey (Sir Billy Connolly), and concealed his body in the shadowy forest. Moved to action, Goddard delves into the woodland's depths, only to unearth a scarecrow, a mere pawn in Stanfield's macabre game. Outraged, but bound by the sacred seal of confession, Goddard is powerless to penalize Stanfield. The stage is set, but the curtain is far from falling. Stanfield ventures back into the confessional, whispering chilling words. The supposed prank has taken a dark turn into reality. Disbelief gripping him, Goddard embarks on another forest expedition, where he stumbles upon the grim truth - Blakey's lifeless body. As the plot thickens and darkens like an encroaching storm, Stanfield's classmate, Arthur Dyson (David Bradley), vanishes into thin air, adding another layer of mystery to this twisted tale of deception and murder.
