A Soldier's Love Story (2010)

In the wake of his parent's divorce, ten-year-old Jared Marshall's world collapses. His father is consumed by his job, and his mother uproots their Iowa life to chase her own career in California, moving them in with her mother. Amidst this upheaval, Jared's class initiates a correspondence with US troops stationed in Bosnia. The letters find their way to the kind-hearted Sergeant First Class Vince Carerra, a man who himself grew up without a father and was recently divorced due to his wife's infidelity while he was on duty. Drawn to Jared's story, Vince starts penning 'fatherly' advice back to him, creating a bond that transcends continents. Upon his unit's return to Fort Sebastian, Vince decides to visit his young pen pal, where he is warmly received. He steps into the shoes of Jared's absent father, becoming his personal baseball coach and eventually, under a loving push from Cupid, his mother's boyfriend. The agreement, however, comes with a caveat - Vince, due to the unpredictable nature of his job, may have to redeploy, so a commitment is not on the cards yet.
