A Simple Wish (1997)

When young Anabel (Mara Wilson) wished upon a star for a fairy godmother, she couldn't have anticipated it would come in the form of a bumbling, inexperienced sprite named Murray (Martin Short). Armed with a roster of well-intended wishes and a broken wand, Murray is a fairy-godfather with more mishaps than miracles. Yet, in a twist of fate, Anabel quickly learns that even the most unlikely heroes can make magic happen. Anabel's simple wish is for her cab-driving father, Oliver, to secure the leading role in a Broadway musical. However, the path to fulfilling this dream is far from straightforward. The pair find themselves in a race against time, battling the malevolent witch Claudia (Kathleen Turner) and her sidekick Boots to reclaim stolen magic wands and restore balance in a world where wishes hold real power. Cue the magic and the mayhem as Anabel and Murray embark on an uproarious journey through a whirlwind of magical mishaps. The unlikely duo has until the stroke of midnight to outwit the wicked, rescue her father, and ensure the world remains a place where dreams can truly come true. As the clock ticks, Anabel realizes that sometimes, wishes aren't so simple, and the most chaotic fairy-godfather might just be the one to make them happen.
