Plot

In a tumultuous world of law and ethics, Lawson Russell finds himself disbarred, accused of betraying his own client. His once thriving career as a defense attorney crumbles, leaving him disgraced, burdened with a troubled conscience. Seeking solace and a fresh start, he escapes to the sun-drenched haven of Key West, intending to pen a book reflecting his experiences. In this serene refuge, an enigmatic elderly Englishman crosses his path, presenting Lawson with his yet unpublished manuscript. Intrigued, Lawson delves into the novel, unaware of the old author's impending demise. Overwhelmed by temptation, he seizes the opportunity to claim the stranger's work as his own, catapulting him to an unexpected literary fame. However, success comes with a twisted edge. The book’s chillingly precise depiction of five unsolved murders draws the attention of seasoned detective, Clifford Dubose. Lawson suddenly finds himself at the heart of a real-life mystery, arrested and accused of the gruesome murders detailed in his successful book. The irony of his situation isn’t lost on him. Once a lawyer, he now finds himself on the other side of the law, struggling to prove his innocence.
