Plot

In the wake of her mother's death, Purslane Hominy Will—an aloof and disenchanted teenager—finds her way back to the vibrant, jazz-infused streets of New Orleans, eager to reclaim the remnants of her fractured childhood. Anticipating a deserted house echoing with memories of the past, she instead stumbles upon an unexpected sight; her late mother's home serves as refuge to two of her old friends, Bobby Long and Lawson Pines. Bobby Long, an aging former literature professor with a fondness for alcohol, has found solace in this dilapidated sanctuary, his life having veered off-course years ago. Alongside him is his young protégé, Lawson Pines, a man whose dwindling ambitions centre on writing a novel encapsulating Bobby's complex life. Their existence, marked by a melancholic blend of loss and longing, is deeply entrenched within the crumbling walls of the house, leaving Pursy with a shocking revelation—she is not alone in her inheritance. In the face of this unexpected twist, Pursy, Bobby, and Lawson find themselves tangled in a reluctant cohabitation. As the hands of time turn, their makeshift living arrangement begins to unravel a woven tapestry of deeply buried secrets. This unearthing tests their bonds, revealing the intricate web of their lives, as intertwined as the roots of the ancient trees lining the city's streets. In "A Love Song for Bobby Long," a young woman's quest to reconnect with her past transforms into a poignant journey of self-discovery, shared histories, and the profound realization of how our lives can become inextricably bound with others.
