In the heart of an idyllic, yet forgotten British colony named Sunshine, a dramatic shift is on the horizon. As the island braces for impending independence, the tranquility is shattered by the assassination of the British governor. The urgency of the situation summons the involvement of Her Majesty's secret service, who entrusts the investigation to the tenacious Desmond Hannah of Scotland Yard.
Upon his arrival at Sunshine, Hannah is met with an uneasy atmosphere of trepidation, a stark contrast to the island's inviting name. The island is consumed by an intense presidential campaign, with neither candidate inspiring confidence amongst the islanders. Lady Beatrix Coltrane, a captivating widow, paints a grim picture of the future, warning Hannah of the potential exploitation of Sunshine by either candidate. Her fears are echoed by the local priest, Reverend Drake, a staunch opponent of the island's independence.
As Hannah navigates this complex web of mistrust and fear, he is joined by Ernie Favaro, a Miami detective tracking the murder of a colleague by the notorious Medellin cartel.
