Plot

In the rigid world of Rodrigo Catano, a man rooted in the traditions of the Porfirian era, every day pulses with predictable rhythm. His world is rocked one day when Roberto del Hierro, a charismatic door-to-door salesman enters his home, peddling an American "Bright O'Home" vacuum cleaner. Rodrigo's daughter, the inquisitive Maru, is entranced by Roberto's demonstration of this modern marvel. Roberto departs, promising to return and further explain the vacuum cleaner to the absent Rodrigo, who is livid that a man has entered his home during his absence. Yet, with a swift combination of charm and wit, Roberto not only convinces Rodrigo to purchase the vacuum cleaner but also a refrigerator, subtly invading the Catano household with the allure of modern technology. But it's not just the household that's captivated. Maru finds herself drawn towards Roberto, and a whirlwind romance ensues. The plot thickens when Roberto declares his intention to marry Maru, igniting a raging storm within the already infuriated Rodrigo. Set against the backdrop of a rapidly modernizing world, "A Family Like Many Others" explores the tension between tradition and progress, love and parental authority.
