Plot

On the dazzling stage, Astrid shines as a renowned cabaret artist, her performances captivating audiences night after night. Behind the curtain, she relishes in the joy of her expanding family, a second child on the way. However, her world of spotlight and familial bliss is shattered when an unexpected revelation strikes - her unborn child carries a serious heart defect and Down syndrome. Now, Astrid and her husband, Markus, are forced to navigate the stormy sea of an agonizing decision: to continue with the pregnancy or opt for a late-term abortion. This distressing dilemma tears at the heart of the usually resilient Astrid, compelling her to question her role in deciding the fate of her child's life. Painstaking discussions ensue, not only within the walls of her home but also with her mother, Beate. The family becomes a battleground of opinions and emotions, each person grappling with the weight of the impending decision. Eventually, a resolution emerges, but it leaves Astrid and Markus wrestling with an unsettling peace. This is a decision that, regardless of its direction, carries a burden they must bear together. "24 Weeks" is a journey into the heart of a family's struggle, a poignant exploration of the delicate balance between life, love, and the unbearable choices that sometimes come with them.
