In an effort to escape a toxic past, Ben and Avery Dankert risk their last pennies – an inheritance – to make a fresh start in Toronto. Ben shoulders the weight of being a tow truck driver for Jackrabbit Towing Services, primarily handling bylaw enforcement, while Avery adds her touch of magic in a local diner as a cook. But their dreams stretch beyond their humble jobs- Ben yearns for his own garage, Avery dreams of her own restaurant. Their adolescent son, Zach, haplessly bears the brunt of their financial struggle, constantly mocked by his peers as white trash. However, the Dankerts' struggle intensifies when Bissey, Ben's crafty boss, introduces a policy that threatens to drown them further in debt, right at the cusp of the company securing a lucrative police contract. Guided by his old friend Sean, who also toils under Jackrabbit's yoke, Ben braves the murky waters of borrowing money from a loan shark, Ray, who chillingly moonlights as a police constable. The anticipated financial relief from the police contract fails to surface as quickly as Ben hoped, tightening the loan shark's noose around the Dankerts' neck. Their dreams, their unity, and their very lives are all tossed into jeopardy. Faced with desperate times, Ben contemplates plunging into the ruthless, morally void world of the chasers. These are the tow truck drivers who prowl the night, ears tuned to the police frequency, ready to swoop down on accident scenes for a lucrative payoff. Among these night predators are Sean, whose motives are shrouded in mystery, and the notorious duo, Wayne and Elvis. In this high-stakes game of survival, Ben soon discovers that crossing the line into the realm of the chasers is a task easier said than done.
