Maura has made the decision to transition from a man to a woman late in life, but that doesn't mean that she's going to let a minute of the rest of her life go to waste. As a parent with three adult children, she dreads having to tell them that she's going by the name Maura rather than Mort, but any attempts to even share with the family are thwarted by their own self-obsession. But Maura's secret isn't the only one in the family, and it will have a different effect on every major person in her life.
