Plot

In the hushed stillness of a redeye flight from the glitz of Los Angeles to the historic heart of Boston, a motley ensemble of passengers — a blind girl with courage beyond her years, a seasoned teacher, a diligent machine worker, a passionate musician, a laid-back stoner, a creative mystery writer, a shrewd businessman, an enigmatic Englishman, and a man teetering precariously on the edge of sanity, dressed disturbingly well in a business suit — find themselves marooned in an unthinkable predicament. They wake up to the disquieting reality that, mysteriously, all other passengers and crew have evaporated into thin air. Their desperate attempts to contact terra firma only add to the mounting dread, as their pleas for help meet with nothing but eerie silence. In a daring move, they manage to land the plane in the quaint, picturesque city of Bangor, Maine, only to confront an even more unsettling truth: the world, as they know it, appears to be dead. The air hangs heavy with an uncanny stillness, sounds refuse to echo, even the food has lost its flavor, all while a distant, ominous rumble draws inexorably closer. It's as if they've tumbled into a chilling, twilight reality, where time itself is distorted and a relentless, insatiable race of monstrous beings — the Langoliers — are hot on their trail, devouring everything that lies in their path. As this disparate group grapples with their new reality, they must race against the clock, and the encroaching Langoliers, to escape a fate worse than solitude. The world may seem desolate, but it is far from empty, and the Langoliers are closing in, one silent, tasteless moment at a time.
