Plot

In the sizzling summer of 1976, the Miller family - Bruce, a determined futures trader, his wife Susan, a homemaker, their teenage daughter Laurie, and young son B.J - embark on a new chapter as they move to an upscale neighborhood in the North Shore, a suburban slice of Chicago. As America commemorates its 200th birthday, two generations in this Chicago suburb are swept into the heart of the socio/sexual revolution. At the center of this upheaval are the Millers and their newly acquainted neighbors - Tom, a charismatic airline pilot, and Trina, a former stewardess. Their lives intertwine in an intricate dance of new freedoms and connections, with the Millers quickly discovering Tom and Trina's unconventional open marriage. The transition strains the Millers' bond with Roger and Janet, their conservative friends from their previous neighborhood. Roger and Janet, parents to a son named Rick, strive to navigate their friendship with the Millers amidst their shock and bewilderment at Tom and Trina's marital arrangement. Even as the narrative predominantly revolves around these three couples, it doesn't lose sight of their children's story arcs. Laurie finds herself drawn to her summer school philosophy teacher Doug, while B.J. and Rick's friendship is put to the test by the move. B.J. also crosses paths with Samantha, a mysterious girl living next door. Swingtown is a vibrant tapestry of evolving relationships, personal exploration, and societal revolution, capturing a pivotal moment in American history through the lens of two generations in a suburban landscape. The series invites viewers to delve into a world where old bonds are tested, new connections are formed, and the traditional norms of love, friendship, and family are redefined.
